No sound of first sound givers.

We all have heard of the movie ‘Alam Ara’. It is the first sound film of India and was released on 14th March 1931. Today, the movie completes its 85 years of existence. But, do you know who Ferozshah M. Mistri and B. Irani are? They were the people behind the music of India’s first sound film. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information about them available on the internet. Well, at least, not on the first page of Google search. All you can get to know is that they were the music directors of Alam Ara. In fact, if you google “B. Irani”, you get information about Boman Irani. It’s tragic that the most important people behind India’s first sound film will always remain a mystery to us. We will never know which song was made by whom, what were the stories behind the scenes, and in B. Irani’s case, we might never even know his full name. Thank goodness, their music is still available to us, courtesy YouTube!

So, today, on the 85th anniversary of Alam Ara, give a good listen to the songs of this movie. There is no better way to pay tribute to the music creators.

Here is the link to the first recorded song of the movie. It was sung by a lost legend, Wazir Mohammad Khan.
